Horn wraps are a necessary part of team roping, and now the NRS Extreme Horn
Wrap has an all-new design with an amazing fit and extra padding where it counts.
The number one benefit to the new design is the fit. NRS has spent the
last year putting these horn wraps to the test at the NRS Training Center.
After ten different prototypes, they have come up with an exceptional
fitting design that protects the cattle and helps the steers last longer.
“We put a lot of time and effort into angling the buckles and the tail
material so that they fit snug around every steer’s head,” said Jim Lamirand,
NRS General Manager. “It’s totally designed not as a ‘figure 8,’ but for the
strap to go around the front of the steer’s
head, which is how the majority of team
ropers wrap their cattle anyway.”
Without the angle of the buckle,
the strap pulls on the buckle instead of
working with the horn wrap. The new
design works both sides together to
completely encase the steer’s head.
The strap, designed to go around
the front of the steer’s head, creates
a shield between the rope and the
steer’s forehead. NRS has also added
a forehead protection piece. The
forehead guard is lined with felt
padding for extra protection between
the rope and the steer.
The new horn wrap fits not only around the steer’s head but also the horn
hole size. The smaller hole size helps it to stay in place and simply looks better.
“We can’t stress the importance of doubling the felt at the point of pull,”
Jim said. “Those two layers of felt under the steer’s horns will increase the
steer’s usability.”
A sore head causes steers to play head tricks and drag. With the extra
padding and fit of the new NRS Extreme Horn Wraps, ropers will get
more months out of their cattle. Steers will last longer because they are
better protected.
The horn wraps come in red, blue and black
so producers and ropers can organize their
cattle.
“We also felt that there was a need for a
smaller version for the fresh cattle,” Jim said.
The green fresh cattle version is built with
the same concepts of the NRS Extreme Horn
Wrap but on a smaller scale to fit snug around
the fresh steers.
The new NRS Extreme Horn Wraps are
all made in Texas. The felt is stamped out and
hand-sewn to the durable polypropylene siding.
The strap is also made out of long lasting
polyester. The strap holes are burned into place
to restrict fraying or stretching.
Horn wraps are an essential part of team
roping. The use of horn wraps benefit the steer, header and heeler, and
with the new design they will help your cattle last even longer. |
