Draw reins are a  common training tool designed to be ridden in conjunction with split reins. They attach to the center D-ring of the cinch, between the horse's front legs, run through the bit rings on each side and then into the rider's hands, forming a continuous loop. The rider should hold both sets of reins; use the split reins primarily and have the draw reins adjusted to reinforce the cue from the split reins if the horse resists or throws it's head up. They should be used with a snaffle bit only since they exert a tremendous amount of leverage on the horse through the bit rings. The danger with draw reins is that the only release from pressure that a horse gets is when the rider releases the reins, this allows more rein to slide through the bit since the rein is one continuous piece. Be careful not to overflex the horse's head with draw reins.
